Erin Higgins, Coach and Therapeutic Game Master

Every hero’s journey begins with a call to adventure—even if that call is just a quiet feeling that there has to be something more.

Have you ever felt hopeless? Like you didn’t belong? Like you were completely alone? I have.

I know what it’s like to struggle. I have a learning difference, I’m hearing impaired, and I’ve battled anxiety, loneliness, and deep personal loss. There were times I felt like an outsider in my own story. But I refused to give up. And through roleplaying games, I found something extraordinary—a way to connect, to heal, and to grow.

Once upon a time, I sat across from a struggling tween, watching them wrestle with emotions they couldn’t put into words. Their frustration, their longing to belong—it was all too familiar. In that moment, I knew I wanted to help. I set off on my journey to become a therapist and school counselor, determined to make a difference.

But the hero’s path is rarely a straight line.

Despite my passion and years of studying psychology, I found myself lost in a world of rigid structures and clinical environments that didn’t feel like the right path. The spark I had—the deep calling to help—was buried under diagnoses, protocols, and assessments. I needed a different way. One that honored creativity, imagination, and storytelling. One that showed people they already had the tools they needed—that even in pain, there was a way forward.

And then, I found the magic.

Roleplaying games weren’t just a fun escape; they were a bridge to growth, connection, and healing. Stepping into a character’s shoes allowed people to take risks, express emotions, and discover strengths in a way real life often doesn’t allow. And when I looked at the Hero’s Journey, I saw it wasn’t just a storytelling device—it was a reflection of real life. A way to help people face their dragons and emerge stronger

So, I forged a new path.

I earned my Master’s in Applied Positive Psychology, specializing in coaching, and wrote my thesis on RPGs as tools for personal development. I became a board-certified coach and built Design & Develop Therapeutic RPG Coaching, where I blend psychology with immersive storytelling to help tweens, teens, young adults, and couples navigate life’s challenges.

Whether it’s a shy teen finding their voice, a young adult managing anxiety, or a couple strengthening their connection, I create a space where imagination and play lead to real transformation.

This journey wasn’t what I expected, and if you’re here, yours probably hasn’t been either. I won’t tell you it’ll be easy—growth never is. But every great adventure has twists, turns, and surprises. And I’ve seen firsthand how stepping into a story—crafting your own adventure—can change lives. Now, I have the honor of guiding others on their own quests, helping them find their strength, face their fears, and step fully into the role of the hero in their own journey.
